Sales and Marketing Manager

Lekiu Importing is one of the top five distributors of ethnic and Asian food consumer packaged goods in Canada.  Rich in history, the company was founded in 1946 and has grown tremendously.  We sell to over 1,000 retailers and have great relationships with our suppliers and customers.  Lekiu Importing is poised to grow even more for the foreseeable future.  That is where YOU come in.  We are in a need of a competent and experienced Sales and Marketing Manager to join the Lekiu team.  The Sales and Marketing Manager will manage and grow market-share for multiple Asian-ethnic brands in the food consumer packaged goods category.

Job Description:

The Sales and Marketing Manager, Mainstream is responsible for leading the development of an overall strategic direction, creative design, policies and procedures for the mainstream sales (chains, independents and food services) as well as some key account management under the direction of the Interim CEO to ensure all retail sales & marketing activities, programs and services are identified, prioritized and assessed from conception, development and implementation.

This entails increasing the profitability of existing products, developing new products and finding innovative solutions for the company’s market segments thru maximizing distribution channels. The role will work with the Interim CEO, the management team and the company’s principals/suppliers to identify all potential distribution channels and assists in the development of sales and marketing strategies for new and existing products.

Paramount: Oversees the sales & marketing activities and efforts across Canada to achieve company’s sales targets. Existing and new products are managed, directed and evaluated with the company creative team, sales team and its sales channels to maximize sales and margin.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of sales and marketing integrity and ethics
  • Ensure achievement of sales target as per business plan by volume and revenue for food segments’ in line with annual budgets within approved expenses and targets
  • Effectively implement sales promotions that maximize volume growth and build brand equity
  • Take ownership for the mainstream market and to develop and build productive relationships with all accounts and channels to meet company growth and productivity plans
  • Closely monitor sales from all main stream banners with any of their POS system
  • Review SKUs and banner margins and align profits as per company objective
  • Build new sales revenue streams in channels currently untapped
  • Ensure that promotions, store and product extensions are executed effectively and as scheduled
  • Maximize sales within multiple grocery stores to ensure 100% fill rate
  • Review monthly sales and budgets for presentation and sales overview
  • Develop and execute strategic plan to achieve sales targets and to expand the company’s customer base.
  • Co-ordinate all product & market development or redevelopment projects
  • Conduct and analyze market research, and develop trade and consumer need strategies based on findings
  • Manage the Canadian sales team and give them guidance and tools to successfully manage and maximize their accounts
  • Develop relationships with all internal cross functional departments in order to establish strong working partnerships and foster effective communication and execution (Planning, Sales Operations, Retail Merchandising, Marketing & Merchandising)
  • Creating new distribution channels, ensure winning of more customers from competition and grow existing customer relationships.
  • Lead cross-cultural teams to develop detailed business plans including, identifying and maximizing potential distribution channels, product development assessment, and product related communication strategy and tactics
  • Enhance trade and consumer support and product/market development mix
  • Stay current with food trends as well as product/market development and sales methodologies and other external trends impacting need for product development or redevelopment
  • Recruit, train, retain & evaluate performance of Sales & Marketing team
  • Attend trade and consumer shows
  • Ad hoc projects
Potential Career Advancement or Development

Depending on performance and capabilities, there is potential added responsibilities of supervising the Sales and Marketing, Ethnic and/or the responsibilities of Product Management.

Requirements: 

  • 5+ years in managing sales, key accounts and brands in food consumer packaged goods
  • 5+ years in a sales and marketing managerial role
  • Must be fluent in English, Mandarin and/or Cantonese; written is an asset
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or a similar program
  • Intermediate or advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, etc.)
  • Personable and superb communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong data and analytic skills
  • Good at teamwork and maintaining a solid and productive team environment
Good-to-have:

  • 5+ years in a leading or managing role of a small team
  • In-depth experience specifically in food distribution
  • Able to handle 2 to 4 small projects simultaneously
  • Good presenter and communicator
